A day in the life of..

Stream - The digital backbone to your business

Today we are back over to the support team to meet the young pup of the group – Tom Richardson:

BP: Hi Tom, how does your role differ from Sam’s and Arron’s who we have previously met?
TR: There is a lot of crossover between our roles, however one thing that I would say is my responsibility is adding new connections to our network. Once provisioning have been informed from engineers that a new DSL or Ethernet Fibre circuit is live, I will set up the ‘radius’ so that it is ready for use on our network. I will then monitor it for the coming hours and days to ensure everything is running correctly.

BP: Could you give us any more details on your day to day duties?
TR: At the moment I’m currently undertaking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in I.T. and Engineering which means I’m out of the office and in College every other week. When I am in the office my role typically entails answering incoming calls, support tickets and I will also monitor performance of connections our network. I will usually be on the ‘late shift’ meaning that I will be the last one in the office so will ensure that all operations within Stream are ready for the next day.

BP: Can you give us some more information about your course?
TR: There’s plenty for me to get my head around! Whether it’s something hardware related such as building a Computer from scratch or a software lesson such as diagnosing network issues. Recently, I have been learning how to design network maps for more complicated connectivity solutions such as an MPLS. This has been very helpful and something I’m getting to put into practice more and more at Stream.

BP: To finish as we always do, name one thing about Tom Richardson that our readers may not know?
TR: I very nearly became a professional gamer. Not so long ago I was playing Call of Duty Black Ops to a very high level. In fact the only thing that held me back from going pro was my age – I was under 16 at the time.
