Synopsis: Telehouse North Cloud – Host Issue
Affecting: Affecting approx 10 cloud customers and some DSL radius connections
Advice to affected users:

Dear Customer

At approx 3am this morning we experienced an issue with one of our VM Hosts in Telehouse North which affected approx. 10 customers and some of our internal ADSL Radius databases.

Engineers restarted the Virtual Machines with issues and the majority of customers affected were back-up within 10 minutes however our Radius servers and one customer still remained affected by the issue.

At 7am engineers attempted to hot vmotion the affected servers across to other hosts however esxi on this host was unresponsive.

At 9am we logged a call vmware and engineers worked with VMware to identify the issue.  After further diagnostics VMWare concluded at 12pm that there was an known bug with esxi and the host would need to be restarted.

At 12pm further attempts to vmotion machines to alternative hosts continued to fail and as a result engineers have started working on gracefully shutting machines down on this server to complete a full reboot of the host.

By 1:30 pm the host had been restarted and by 1:45pm the majority of customers  virtual machines had been reconnected.

Engineers continued to work on our radius cluster and at 2:30pm the cluster had been restarted correctly and broadband users that had previously lost their connection could now re-authenticate their session.

Further to the above engineers are planning to perform an emergency patch to the ESXI host this weekend to resolve the VMware related in bug to ensure this issue is not repeated.

We apologies for the issues caused, please refer any further questions to support@stream-networks.co.uk

Your sincerely
