Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check if I can get FTTP? +
We have built an online checker — enter your postcode and/or landline number and it will return the best available connectivity and broadband deals.
Is it just Openreach FTTP that Stream offer? +
No — as part of our commitment to building the UK's most connected network we partner with Openreach and a number of local full-fibre providers, giving access to more broadband networks than any other provider.
Is FTTP an ultrafast broadband connection? +
It can be either ultrafast or superfast depending on the service selected — once you hit 300Mbps download you are in ultrafast territory, with anything above 30Mbps classed as superfast.
What is the difference between FTTP and FTTC? +
FTTP uses fibre-optic cable all the way from the exchange to your premises. FTTC uses fibre to the local green cabinet then copper to your door — so FTTP offers faster, more reliable speeds.
Why can't I get FTTP? +
The Openreach FTTP rollout takes time — thousands of miles of new fibre need laying, presenting logistical challenges like road digs and wayleaves. Government grants are helping speed this up.
Why does my business need an ultrafast broadband connection? +
Extra speed lets you use more internet-based technologies or increase reliability. VoIP, Cloud and SaaS all get more bandwidth to perform efficiently.
What is the installation time for FTTP? +
The quoted lead time for FTTP is 15–20 days for activation from the point of order.
Are FTTP and FTTH the same thing? +
Yes — FTTH stands for Fibre to the Home, FTTP for Fibre to the Premises. FTTH is typically used for residential properties, but both are ultrafast fibre connections.
