Hospice Services, Community Sites & Retail Network

Woking & Sam Beare Hospice provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care across Surrey, supported by a network of charity shops and community locations that help fund its services.

With clinical teams, support services and retail locations operating across multiple sites, the hospice needed a network capable of providing secure, high-performance connectivity wherever staff were based. Access to cloud-hosted applications, Microsoft 365, NHS-connected services and shared organisational resources needed to be reliable, resilient and protected against evolving cyber security threats.

As the organisation expanded its digital services, it required a resilient network infrastructure that could securely connect all locations through a single managed platform, replacing individual site connections with a unified network designed to support patient care, operational efficiency and future growth.

The challenge

A modern network for hospice, retail and support sites alike

Woking & Sam Beare Hospice required a modern wide area network capable of securely connecting hospice facilities, retail locations and support services through a single managed platform. Staff needed reliable access to Microsoft 365, cloud applications, NHS-connected services and unified communications, regardless of location.

The existing approach of managing individual site connections was becoming increasingly complex and did not provide the consistency, visibility and resilience needed to support the organisation's ongoing digital transformation. The hospice therefore sought a secure, scalable networking solution that could improve operational efficiency while strengthening cyber resilience.

Multiple sites, one network
Headquarters and every charity shop needed to be securely connected together.
Private routes to Azure and HSCN
Access to cloud infrastructure and the Government's HSCN network needed to be secure by design.
No room for outages at core sites
Head office and core sites needed resilient connectivity that could withstand a single link failing.
The solution

What Stream delivered

We designed a secure Wide Area Network that brings every Hospice site together, with resilient connectivity at the core and hosted telephony out to the branches.

Secure Wide Area Network

A secure WAN was built to connect the Hospice's headquarters and charity shops together as a single, managed network.

Private routes to Azure & HSCN

Dedicated routes were provisioned from the WAN into the Hospice's private Azure cloud infrastructure and the Government HSCN network.

Resilient connectivity at core sites

Resilient RO2 connectivity was deployed at the Hospice's core sites, so critical locations stay online even if a link fails.

Hosted telephony for branches

Branch offices were moved onto hosted telephony, delivered over the same secure network as everything else.

"Stream helped us simplify what had become a complex network estate. Rather than managing separate connections across multiple locations, we now have a single, secure network connecting our hospice sites, support functions and retail locations. Staff have reliable access to Microsoft 365, cloud services and NHS-connected systems wherever they're based, while the improved visibility and resilience have made the network much easier for my team to manage."
